How does the "Attention & Action" feature work?

Attention & Action allows School Admins and Teachers to highlight important posts and request parents' attention.

The feature is also available in the Teachers & Staff channel, where staff members can be asked to review and acknowledge important information.

1. GET TO KNOW THE FEATURE

1.1. What is the Attention & Action feature?

Attention & Action is a School Signals feature that allows schools to highlight information that needs special attention from parents and other users.

School Admins and Teachers can use the feature in the Add Post modal, between Delivery and AI Assistant.

The Attention & Action feature:

  • Highlights an important post in the School Feed with a color for attention

  • Displays built-in prefix "Attention Requested", "Reminder," or "Important Information" at the beginning of the post title and its email notification

  • Adds a Got It confirmation button to the post and its email notification, allowing parents to acknowledge that they have reviewed the information.

  • Allows the school to automate reminders of the post (twice a week or weekly) to parents who have not clicked 'Got It' until the set deadline

  • Provides admin with a report on users who have clicked the 'Got It' button.

1.2. Why was the Attention & Action feature created?

Feedback from our parent panels has indicated that families want important communications to be easy to recognize so they can stay informed and take action when needed.

The Attention & Action feature helps schools spotlight important communications by clearly highlighting, labeling, and sending reminders of the posts. This makes it easier for parents to notice these important messages in the inbox and communication feeds.

The Attention & Action feature also gives admins clarity on how the post is received and "processed."

1.3. Who can create posts with Attention & Action?

Users with School Admin and Teacher accounts can use Attention & Action when creating a post in School Signals, as long as they have permission to post to the selected audience.

Community Users and Parents even in club/group/classroom admin roles do not have user rights to the feature.

Note: The system has no built-in limits on how frequently School Admins and Teachers can use the feature. Contact Support for feedback if your school overuses this feature and you need technical guidelines to block the overuse; we can work on school-based or user-based limits.

1.4. How do I set the post with Attention & Action?

Go to the post's Attention & Action section, and click Edit.

Messaging: In the Request confirmation section, select from the drop-down one of the options:

  • Reminder (post to be highlighted in pink)

  • Attention Requested (post to be highlighted in blue)

  • Important (post highlighted with orange)

This is the prefix text that will be placed before the post's title. If you select "None", it cancels the feature.

Reminders: Next, select whether you want to send parents reminders until they click the 'Got It' button. Choose 'No' to not send any follow-up reminders.

If you selected "Yes, once a week" or "Yes, twice a week", select the duration for the reminders by selecting the last time a reminder might go out.

Continue making the post as usual.

2. NOTIFICATIONS

2. 1. How are parents notified of posts set with Attention & Action?

Posts using Attention & Action are published in the School Feed and delivered through the usual School Signals notification channels, based on the selected post type (standard or priority) and users' set notification preferences. Reminder notifications are delivered by email and app push.

Schools can choose whether to send automatic follow-up reminders to parents who have not yet confirmed they have reviewed a post. Reminder notifications are optional.

When creating the post, the a school admin or teacher can select:

  • No reminders

  • Once a week

  • Twice a week

If "Once a week" or "Twice a week" is selected, the admin or teacher sets an end date for the reminders. A recommended duration might be 21 days.

2.2 Are Teachers and Admins included to receive reminder notifications on posts set with Attention & Action?

The user who created the post does not receive follow-up reminders.

School Admins do not receive automated reminders for Attention & Action posts, regardless of the channel. They continue to receive regular feed notifications as before.

Teachers receive automated reminders depending on the channel:

  • School News — Teachers do not receive repeated reminders.

  • Grade Level Posts — Teachers do not receive repeated reminders.

  • Teachers & Staff — Teachers receive reminders until they click Got It.

  • Classrooms — Teachers receive reminders if they are members of the classroom.

  • Clubs & Programs — Teachers receive reminders if they are members of the club or program.

  • Groups — Teachers receive reminders if they are members of the group.

Community Users, including Program Admins and Student Mentors, receive reminders for posts they would normally be notified about. Their reminder eligibility follows their existing notification access, just like Parent and Student accounts.

2.3. Do Student Accounts receive reminder notifications?

Yes, students with active accounts receive reminder notifications as long as they have view and comment rights to the channel, and have opted (or have not opted out) to receive notifications.

2.4 Do Community Users receive reminder notifications?

Community Users receive reminder notifications on posts that they can see on the platform, according to their notification preferences

2.5. If reminder notifications are in use, when do users receive these reminders?

If once a week is selected as the reminder frequency, reminders go out 7 days later from the date of the post, shortly after 8am (8:10am) at the same time as volunteering signup and mandatory form reminders.

If once a week is selected as the reminder frequency, reminders go out 7 days later from the date of the post, shortly after 8am (8:10am) at the same time as volunteering signup and mandatory form reminders.

2.6. Does a reminder notification create a new post?

No, the reminder notification links to the original post in the feed. Do not delete the post if you want to keep reminding parents.

2.7. How does a user stop getting reminders?

Once a parent clicks Got It, the system stops sending follow-up reminders for that post.

Note: Email reminders and app push reminders require that the parent has opted for instant or daily email notifications and/or instant app push notifications for the channel where the post was made.

3. MORE INFORMATION

3.1. What is the Attention folder in the School Feed?

For quick access, School Signals provides an Attention folder under School Feed in the navigation menu. This folder collects posts from the past 30 days that still require the user's confirmation. A number next to Attention indicates how many posts are awaiting review.

Once the user clicks Got It, users can to save the post to their Saved Posts folder for future reference. The post is removed from the Attention folder but remains available in the School Feed.

3.2. What is the difference between Attention posts labeled as Reminder, Attention Requested, and Important?

Systematically they all work the same; the difference is in the language and color.

All three options highlight a post and ask recipients to confirm that they have reviewed it by clicking Got It.

  • Reminder: Highlighted in pink. Recommended to highlight deadlines, school procedures, and upcoming activities.

  • Attention Requested: Highlighted in blue. Recommended to highlight actionable information that schools specifically want families to review.

  • Important: Highlighted in orange. Recommended to highlight important school announcements or policy changes.

A systematic use of the feature selection within the school brings most clarity to parents. We recommend establishing consistent guidelines for staff so that families learn to recognize the different types of posts and understand their importance.

3.3. Recommendation: Avoid overusing Attention & Action

Attention & Action works best when used selectively. If you mark too many posts for special attention, families may start to overlook them. Families will appreciate useful reminders that help them stay on track, but no one wants to be targeted with repeated notifications about something that isn't actionable or highly important.

Use the correct channel when posting this information, and avoid duplicate posts. For instance, don't make a school-wide post and a classroom post with the same information, since most people would get both notifications.

We recommend that schools:

  • Reserve Attention & Action for posts that genuinely benefit from confirmation.

  • Use the three attention types consistently across staff and classrooms.

  • Avoid requesting confirmation for routine announcements and everyday updates.

  • Use automatic reminders thoughtfully to avoid overwhelming families with repeated notifications.

  • Do not use it for social media style marketing or messaging.

Note that the system does not include built-in limits on how frequently you can use the feature. Contact Support in case of over-use of this feature.
