You have many options for chat configurations.
Parent Chats
You have the following options for parent chat. You can
turn off chat from parents and use it only for internal staff communication
allow parents to send chat messages but require a staff member added to the thread
allow parents to send chat messages without requiring a staff member (default setting)
To adjust parent settings, go to the Posting Rights page.
Club/Program Chat
Parent Group Chat for Clubs is a separately controlled chat feature and works independently from the chat settings for parents set on the Posting Rights page.
Club/Program chats automatically include all parents (and only parents) of the club/program in the thread.
You can allow parents-only Club/Program chat while otherwise turning off chat for parents, or requiring an admin member to be included.
Please get in touch with Support to activate this feature.
Student Chats
If you use student accounts for students 13 and older, you can
turn off chat for students
allow students to send chat messages but require a staff member to be added to the thread (default setting)
allow students to send chat messages without requiring a staff member
To adjust student chat settings, go to the Student Settings page.
School Admin Can Monitor Chats
In all cases, School Admins can access any chat. Users are informed about this access right at the top of their chat screen when they begin using the chat.
It is still a good practice to remind community members that school admins can access the chats. Let parents and students know in detail what the chat messages system is intended for. Particularly, remind the community that chat is intended to improve everyday information flow, and not for sharing sensitive information or health information.
Does School Signals Monitor Chats?
School Signals only reviews chats if requested by the school's School Admin.
School Signals may review activity logs related to Chat usage for development and troubleshooting purposes.
