Chat Permission Settings
Students can use chat messaging if enabled in the Student Access page. By default, chatting is allowed, but requires adding a staff member to the chat thread.
The settings to control whether student chatting is allowed are:
Use Default (Enabled, requires a staff member)
Disabled
Enabled

Can students start a new chat?
Yes, a student can start a new chat if chatting is generally allowed.
Can students be allowed to chat with other students without including a staff member?
This is a school's decision. Students-only chats can be allowed. In the Student Settings (controlled by School Admin), set the chat a “Enabled” and "no staff member is required."
Can students chat directly with parents?
Students can chat with parents without adding a staff member to the thread if the chat in Student Settings (controlled by School Admin) is set to “Enabled” and there is no requirement for a staff member.
Can students participate in the parent-only chat in Clubs/Programs?
Clubs/Programs may activate a special feature called “parent-only chat”. This chat feature is designed for parents to message about coach appreciation ideas and other logistical topics. This chat is intended for parents only. All parents of the club/program are added to this chat. This chat is not for students.
When a staff member is required to be present in the chat, what happens if the last staff member leaves a group chat ?
Until a new member is added to the chat thread, participants can no longer exchange messages in the thread.
When a staff member is required to be present in the chat, can a student continue reading the chat after staff participation ends?
Yes, the student continues to have read access.
Can students block another user?
Students cannot block other users. Students should contact their School Admin with any concerns. School Admin has the right to revoke posting and chatting privileges on an account.
Can students prevent other users from starting chats with them?
Students can turn off the chat feature from My Account > Visibility > Profile Visibility
