While you want to keep receiving notifications on chat threads, some threads may be irrelevant to you. To stop receiving notifications on a particular threat, click the chat's i icon and select Mute notifications.

'Mute notifications' stops email and push notifications for the specific chat thread. Remember that you can also leave a chat.
