Why is it recommended to add student data?

Updated today

If your school is not importing accounts from an SIS system, you can still manually add users to School Signals.

Enter Student Data First

It is recommended that you enter student data first before creating parent accounts. The student data is limited to name, date of birth, and associating a primary/room teacher for the student.

For example, you would first add a 4th grader named Demo Sammy Smith as a student. Next, you would create her parent’s account — Demo Janet Smith — and indicate that Sammy is her daughter.

Linking parents to their children allows School Signals to automatically assign parents to the correct communication audiences. This means Demo Janet Smith will receive not only school-wide updates but also grade-level and classroom-specific messages relevant to her child.

When adding a parent, the system guides you through this process intuitively.

Don’t Want to Include Student Data?

If your school prefers not to include student data, you can still fully use School Signals for general communication. However, you will not be able to use grade-level or classroom-level audience features.

Please contact us, and we can update your school’s settings so the system does not ask for student data.
